Basics of how to use the Genetic Calculator 1.3

1- The first thing to look at on the top left of the calculator in the image of the top half is a column labelled "Symbol".

2- Next up is a column labelled "Mutations" under which are found various headings namely:
"Structural"
"Dark-Blue Chromosome"
"Sex-Linked Recessive"
"Pieds"
The last one has no name but for the purpose of this tutorial let's name it "New"

3- The next column is for inheritance mode of the particular mutation, namely:
DO - Autosomal Dominant
IN - Autosomal Incomplete Dominant
CD - Co-dominant
RE - Autosomal Recessive
SE - Sex-linked Recessive
L - Multi Alleles

4- Next up is 2 major columns named:
"1.0" - which simply stands for "Male" or "Cock".
"0.1" - which simply stands for "Female" or "Hen"

5- Under these are minor columns named:
"Visual" - here is where you will tick what the actual visual colour of the bird is.
"Splits to" - here you will tick what genes the bird is split to.
So to explain these further let's use a simple example of a Blue/ino cock.
(/) is short for split to
So we have a blue cock which is split to ino.

If you look at this blue/ino cock and compare it to a blue cock without any splits, both birds will look the same so when looking at a blue/ino cock you see a blue bird which is visual but you don't see the split "ino" which is hidden or not visual.
The ino here could have been inherited from the cocks father or mother.

6- If the male is split to certain trait and this trait was inherted from father we will tick "X1" at the column "splits to" for "1.0", and if the female is "splits to" certain trait and this trait was inherted from mother we will tick "X2" at the column"splits to" for "0.1":
(1) "X1" - select this if the sex-linked gene was inherited from that father.
(2) "X2" - select this if the sex-linked gene was inherited from the mother.

7- If we know that:
a- Whitefaced = Turquoise
b- Dutch blue = Aqua
c- Seagreen = AquaTurquoise
Then a Whitefaced Dutch Blue would be an AquaTurquoise.
On gencalc, you tick this into the calculator as aqua split turquoise.
The bird isn't technically split turquoise as it's an intermediate form between aqua and turquoise - however adding it as a split is the only way of getting it on the calculator.
The bird may be (Aqua Turquoise) and not be (Turquoise Aqua).


8-If the bird is (Aqua), Split to (Turquoise) and has a Single Dark Factor DF (sf),
i.e DF (sf) Aqua Turquoise); we choose (T1) if the Dark Factor comes from Cock and (T2) if it comes from Hen.
(1) (T1) if the Dark Factor DF (sf) comes from Cock.
(2) (T2) if it comes from Hen.

9- If we know that: A whitefaced creamino would be as: aqua ino or turquoise ino or aqua turquoise ino.
So you tick the bird down as a visual aqua or turquoise with a visual ino or aqua/turquoise ino.

10- We last spoke about the top half of the calculator, so now I'm going to speak about the bottom half of the calculator:
On the bottom half of the calculator you find 2 boxes that can be checked or ticked
The first says: "Visuals only (no splits)" and the other says: "Show genetic code"

11- Next you will find 2 buttons namely:
"Reset" - this allows you to clear your previous entry so that you can perform a new calculation
"Generate" - you click this button once you have selected the genetics of the pairings of both the birds that you would like to put together and it will calculate and give you the outcome.

How Do We Calculate:
1- Go to the bottom of the calculator and make sure there are no ticks in the bottom 2 boxes.
2- Click the "Reset" button to clear any entries you have previously made.
3- With nothing ticked, if you click the "Generate" button you should get the result: 1.0 green x 0.1 green… that means when you don't choose any thing, the calculator will choose ”Green” Bird.
4- If you will mate "Green Cock" to a "Lutino Hen":
a- Firstly hit the Reset button to clear out any previous choices.
b- For the "Green Cock" we leave the "1.0" column empty as shown in the previous.
c- For the "Lutino Hen" we tick "ino" under the "0.1" column under sex-linked mutations.
d- The result of mating a "Green Cock" to a "Lutino Hen" is:
(1) Green/ino male chicks… means green split ino.
(2) Green female chicks.
5- Now we are going to mate one of the "Green/ino" male chicks back to the "Lutino" mother:
a- On the gencalc the first thing we always do before starting a new calculation is to click the "Reset" button.
b- For the male "Green/ino" we will not tick anything under the "visual" column for "1.0" but we need to tick "ino" under the "splits to" column, but now there are 2 options under the "splits to" column namely:
(1) "X1" - if the sex-linked gene was inherited from that father.
(2) "X2" - if the sex-linked gene was inherited from the mother.
Since we know that our "Green/ino male chick had a "Green" from father and a "Lutino" from mother, so we tick "X2" for "ino" under the "splits to" column under "0.1".
Note:
If you tick a wrong choise, and you want to change with the correct one; you double click at the wrong tick then it will be empty and you can now tick the new choice.
6- The results:
Males:
50% - will be visually green birds carrying/split to the hidden ino gene just like the male.
50% - will be visually lutino/yellow birds without any splits or hidden genes.
Females:
50% - will be visually lutino/yellow birds without any splits or hidden genes.
50% - will be visually green birds without any splits or hidden genes.
